| ST. PAUL — More than 200 students, parents, pastors and staff from 18 local congregations gathered at Concordia University in St. Paul March 31 for the 15th Annual Minnesota State Bible Bowl Competition.
The 2007 Bible Bowl questions were taken from the books of Mark and James. Students were asked questions such as: “How many baskets of leftovers remained after Jesus fed the 5,000 hungry?” and “What did the centurion, who stood in front of Jesus on the cross, say?”
By the end of the competition, teams from Bethel Lutheran Church of St. Paul and Trinity Lutheran Church of Fairbault battled for the top spot. The Trinity Lutheran team—comprised of Katie Jordahl, Joel Keuhne, Lisa Simonson and mentor Phil Simonson—came back from the loser’s bracket, winning twice over the opposing team to claim the championship.
“The Bible Bowl serves as an opportunity for youth to study God’s Word, grow in faith and participate in a fun Christian environment,” said Pastor Steve Breithbarth, an event organizer and pastor of Grace Lutheran Church of Chisholm.
Students also participated in an individual written competition. Luke Rustad, from Bethel Lutheran Church of St. Paul, took first place in the written competition.
For the past 15 years, parents, teachers, mentors, drivers, test writers and volunteer quiz-masters from the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod Minnesota North and South Districts have joined forces to put on the Bible Bowl at Concordia University.
Concordia University, St. Paul, is a private university of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and one of 10 schools that comprise the Concordia University System.
