ST. PAUL — Northwestern College students recently won seven awards in the 2006 National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Student Production Competition—the most of any college in the contest this year. The students were honored at the NRB National Convention in Orlando, Fla., in February.

Senior Brian Gullikson of Eden Prairie, Minn., won first place and junior Ryan “Goose” Nissley of Bloomfield, Mont., won second place in the radio commercial category. Sophomore Pat Laeger of Shakopee, Minn., won first place and senior Annemarie Metcalf of Coon Rapids, Minn., won second place in the Radio Public Service Announcement category.

Senior Matt Pelishek of Minneapolis won second place and Ryan Nissley won third place in the Radio Demo Category. In the Radio Drama category Matt Pelishek and junior Karl Stavem received third place honors.

Kyle Foster of Dixon, Ill., a junior, won first place in the Al Sanders Essay Scholarship competition. Foster will receive a first place scholarship award of $1,000. This national essay competition is funded by Focus on the Family on behalf of NRB Hall of Fame inductee and religious broadcasting pioneer Al Sanders.

Foster’s winning entry was entitled, “Technology and the Future of Radio and Television: How New Media is Affecting Broadcasting.” The NWC Broadcasting Department’s Media Management class encouraged entries in the contest as part of a mid-semester research assignment.
