Multi-artist worship album shows folksy side of major artists

ST. PAUL — Third Day front man Mac Powell and Iranian-born author and speaker David Nasser are teaming up to bring the Glory Revealed Tour to 15 cities—including Duluth, St. Paul and Alexandria—this spring. The two are joined by “friends” Shane and Shane, Brian Litrell, Starfield’s Tim Neufeld, Hyper Static Union’s Shawn Lewis, Trevor Morgan and Candi Pearson-Shelton.

The tour will support the album by the same name, which released March 6.

“We are so excited for the opportunity to do something a little different on the road,” Powell said. “One minute you might hear us doing a Third Day worship song and the next minute a Shane and Shane song, all the while mixing in these compelling new worship songs that were written just for this project.”

The “Glory Revealed: The Word of God in Worship” album also features Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crown’s Mark Hall and David Crowder.

The multi-artist album features songs crafted directly from Scripture and features musical styles ranging from modern acoustic rock to folk to bluegrass. The idea for the project began when Powell and Nasser met at a Billy Graham event.

“They had just brought Third Day in to do their music and I was a speaker at the rally,” Nasser recalled. “After the event, we ended up having a meal together and just really bonded and began a friendship.”

When Nasser started discussing a book he was writing, Powell became interested and the two developed the idea for an album centered around Scripture.

“The glory of God is best revealed in His Word,” Nasser said. “When we begin to dig into the truth that is found within the pages of the Bible, we will begin to see His glory revealed.”

Initially, Powell was going to produce the album and leave the songwriting to others on the project.

“David sent me about eight or 10 Scriptures and I wrote five songs in a matter of about two hours, which never happens,” Powell said. “To me, it was very evident that the Lord was putting this together. It wasn’t me trying to do this on my own.”

The first radio single, “By His Wounds,” features Hall, Chapman, Littrell and Powell and debuted at No. 26 on the R&R Christian AC Monitored chart.

“Working with Mac, Steven Curtis and Brian on this one was a great experience,” Hall said. “The song is amazing and all the artists involved are heroes of mine. I hope this is the first of many.”

“To the Only God” was written by Chris Tomlin and recorded by Shane and Shane and David Crowder. Shane and Shane also recorded “Come, Worship the King” with Michael W. Smith.

“When we hear it we thought, ‘That’s either a Shane and Shane song or a Michael W. Smith song.’ And that said, it turned out to be a Shane and Shane and Michael W. Smith song,” said Shane Everett.

“We’re very excited about not only playing this music together, but spending time with one another on the road,” Powell said of the tour. “David and I were talking about being able to spend time with all these people that we really respect. It’s going to be a fun time.”
